Corey Ingram Circle, Champions Walk Get An Official Unveiling, Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Flowers joined a host of other elected officials, community leaders and members of the public Thursday for the unveiling of a new memorial paying tribute to the late U.S. Navy Petty Officer Corey Ingram, who died in an explosion aboard the USS John McCain in 2017.

The traffic circle at Smith Street and Creek Road has been renamed Corey Ingram Circle. Thursday’s event also marked the official opening of the Champions Walk that honors community leaders who made significant contributions to the Northside community and the city. The Poughkeepsie Alliance funded the project, which was designed by the MASS Design Group.

The first five Champions being honored with markers along the walk are Theodore “Tree” Arrington, Barbara Jeter-Jackson, Wesley J. Lee, Perinella “Penny” Lewis and Lorraine Roberts. Lewis and Lee were at today’s event and were joined by surviving family members of the other three honorees.
