The festive event featured conversations about the meaning of Kwanzaa, created by activist Maulana Karenga and based on African harvest festival traditions.
Participants joined hands and made a circle and then conveyed something about their own ancestry to the group. MyKingstonKids set up a fun photo booth, and the event ended with a scrumptious potluck supper.
Mayor Flowers also had a chance to see Celebrating the African Spirit’s new office at the Family Partnership Center.
