At last week’s Common Council meeting, the city honored two current and one former Poughkeepsie Middle School students who created a summer basketball tournament at Malcolm X Park this summer.
Mayor Nelson has proclaimed July 23 an annual day of celebration and recognition of the event. Students Se’Maj Amir Higgs, William Long, Jr., and Tai’er Amir Dancy are seen here holding their proclamations at the Common Council meeting with James Higgs and Troy Dancy.
The tournament drew dozens of participants, and council member Yvonne Flowers worked with fellow council member Lorraine Johnson and city Parks and Recreation Superintendent Brian Laffin to help make the tournament a reality. Read more about this great initiative here.
