In one of his last acts as Mayor of Poughkeepsie, Marc Nelson recently issued a proclamation celebrating Scenic Hudson\u2019s 60th anniversary, noting the organization\u2019s longstanding work in protecting and enhancing the Hudson Valley over the decades.

Scenic Hudson has long called Poughkeepsie home and recently purchased the former Standard Gage factory on Pershing Avenue, near the Walkway Over the Hudson. The space is being transformed into the organization\u2019s new headquarters, as well as a thriving community space. The green building and landscape will use less energy and water, and will offer a welcoming space for all residents and visitors to the city\u2019s Northside to learn, grow, and play together.

Through the years, the environmental organization has partnered with the City of Poughkeepsie on many important projects. It was one of the early financial supporters of the Walkway Over the Hudson and more recently has provided almost $1 million, among other resources, to help revitalize Malcolm X<\/a> y Pershing<\/a> Parks on the Northside. Pershing Avenue Park & Neighborhood Farm is a vital community resource that provides hundreds of pounds of fresh produce to the neighborhood.

Last month, the Marcus J. Molinaro Northside Line officially opened in the town and city of Poughkeepsie. The 1.2-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail was built on a former CSX rail that was purchased by Scenic Hudson as part of its mission to increase public-use trails throughout Dutchess County. Scenic Hudson has been a major champion of environmental causes since its founding in 1963, and Poughkeepsie honored this commitment by proclaiming Dec. 8 \u201cScenic Hudson Day.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
